First, you’ll want to consider where the rug will be used – is it a high traffic area like a family room or a low to medium traffic area like a bedroom?
1. CHOOSE THE FIBER
High Traffic Areas: Living Rooms, Family Rooms, Hallways, Stairs
Fiber: Choose Wool over cotton in high traffic areas
Wool:
- soft
- naturally stain and soil resistant
- cleans easily
- naturally flame retardant
- more expensive than cotton, and will last longer
Low to Medium Traffic Areas: Bedrooms, Studies
Fiber: Wool or cotton work well in low to medium traffic areas.
Cotton:
- soft and plush
- easy to clean, but will absorb spills, so treat fast!
- does not wear as well as wool over time
2. CHOOSE THE TECHNIQUE
Flatweave:
- flat
- lightweight
- reversible
- durable
- average delivery is 10-12 weeks
- custom sizes and shapes are available
How is it made? Verticals yarns (the warp) are woven into horizontal years (the weft).
Handtufted:
- have a “pile” – the average thickness of our Handtufted rugs is 8-12 mm
- durable
- average delivery is 10-12 weeks
- custom sizes and shapes are available
- more affordable and faster to weave than Handknotted
How is it made? Individual yarns are pulled through the rug’s backing (made of organic cotton) and then sheared.
Handknotted:
- have a “pile” – average thickness of our Handtufted rugs is 8 mm
- durable
- average delivery is 18 weeks
- custom sizes and shapes are available
- more durable and time consuming to weave than Handtufted and Flatweave
How is it made? Each yarn is individually tied to form a knot. Handknotted rugs are woven to last a lifetime.
We recommend the use of a rug underpad with all rugs to prevent the rug from slipping.
